Introduction [02/22/08]
Character Name: Thor, God of Thunder

Pantheon: Norse

Parentage: Odin & Jord

Patronage: God of Thunder

Residence:
Thor's traditional Asgard home is Bilskirnir, in Thrudheim. It is here in this grand hall that his exploits over the centuries have been put on display in gory detail. The head's and various other remains of monsters and creatures slain by his hand adorn almost every wall and room, save for the personal space of Sif, and the area set aside for his final trophy to one day be put on display. It was here, in days long gone by, that he would boast of his adventures, exchanging tales with the other warriors of Asgard. Presently the hall remainsmore or less empty, as Thor has not chosen to visit in some time.

Not wanting to intrude upon the private abode of Sif, but at the same time not wanting to reside too far from her, he maintains a small, modest apartment that houses little more than a bed, kitchen, and wash. Choosing to reside among mankind, Thor makes a living as a blacksmith, forging swords and other bladed weapons for historical enthusiasts. In this way, he retains a small connection to the past that he misses.

Personality:
Thor has been known to be especially brash, boastful, stubborn, and at times thick headed. Still, he is much more straightforward and down to earth than most God's, able to relate to the common man on his own level. Over the years Thor has become ever more humble, no longer as arrogant as he once was. Often, his opponents mistakenly dimiss him as a mindless brute, but as he has shown in avoiding marrying his daughter off to a dwarf, he is and can be quite clever. On the field of battle, he is a stalwart leader.

Born of Jord, Thor has always had a natural affinity for the earth and its inhabitants. As a champion of mankind, he has fought against many monsters and has even been known to take the side of men against other God's. At times, this has led to some tense situations in Asgard.

Recently, both influenced by the modern world and Sif's independence, he has begun to realize his faults as a husband. Finally now, and perhaps too late he realizes all the mistakes he has made, having finally swallowed his enormous pride enough to see clearly. It is for these reasons, more than any other that he has been trying harder to adapt to the new world that Sif is so in love with.

History: Born of Odin and Jord, Thor has long stood as the champion of the Æsir. It was he that slew the frost giants that threatened Asgard. When Loki cut the hair of his bride Sif, he almost slew him until he promised to replace her hair. Though he made good on his promise, Loki would plague him once more by planting the seeds of doubt in Thor's mind pertaining to the fidelity of Sif. The rift thus created by the false accusations stangled the life out of the newly weds marriage before it had a chance to blossom.

Over the years, Thor has fought constantly in the defense of mankind, at times even facing off against other God's. A battle was never far away, and he was always ready and eager. It seemed as though his exploits would never end, until one day the world changed. Black powder changed the entire course of how battles and wars were waged, and with this new change Thor saw the loss of honorable combat. No longer could he fight and blend in among men wielding his mighty hammer. Weary of the new world, he retreated for a long time to Bilskirnir, where he lamented of past glory.

Despite his distaste for the new world, however, he could not stay away from it for long, and so he once more began to fight among men when he felt it necessary, an unknown soldier among the masses there to set a heroic example at those critical, opportune times that can change the course of a battle. It was his way of continuing on as a defender of men.

In modern times, Thor continues to cling to the old ways however he can. Masquerading among men as 'Mattias Kamprad', Thor owns and operators a small forge that he uses to make a mortal living as a blacksmith, fashioning swords and other weapons that provide him a small link to the old world. While by no means as as accostumed to the modern world as Sif, he is getting better.

Miscellaneous: As a warrior and champion of mankind and Asgard, Thor is well versed in any weapon he lays his hands on. His signature weapon of choice, Mjolnir, is a short handled warhammer that when thrown returns to his hand, and also gives him the ability to
hurl lightning bolts. To wield Mjolnir, Thor must wear the belt Megingjord, which boosts his already formidable strength, and the iron gloves, Jarn Griepr. Often when not in use, especially in modern times, Thor will shrink Mjolnir to the size of a pendant, which he wears around his neck.

Though he has not made use of them in ages, Thor also possesses a flying chariot drawn by the goats Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr. If the need arises, Thor is able to actually eat the goats, and return them to life the following day by placing their skin and bones together with the power of Mjolnir.
